Reason to consult

Osteopath for pregnant women

During pregnancy, the body changes fast: the pelvis opens, the lumbar curve increases, weight shifts. Low back pain, sciatica, pubic or rib pain, reflux and heavy legs are common. Osteopathy supports these changes with gentle techniques, at every stage of pregnancy, then helps you recover after the birth.

The signs that bring people to consult

  • Low back pain, sciatica or pelvic pain during pregnancy
  • Pubic (symphysis) or tailbone pain
  • Rib pain, breathing discomfort, reflux
  • Preparing the pelvis before the birth
  • After the birth: low back pain, pelvis, caesarean scar, return to sport

What I do during the session

  1. Examination of the pelvis, lower back, diaphragm and hip mobility
  2. Gentle techniques, in a suitable position (on your side, seated) depending on the stage
  3. Work on the pelvis and the perineum in coordination with your midwife for preparation and rehabilitation
  4. After the birth: rebalancing the pelvis and supporting the return to sport, including cycling
Important

When to see a doctor first

Bleeding, regular contractions, loss of fluid, headaches with visual disturbance or significant swelling are matters for your midwife, your gynaecologist or the maternity unit.

All the signs for which I refer you to a doctor first

Osteopathy does not replace medical care. I work alongside your GP, your midwife or your paediatrician when necessary.

FAQ

Your questions

Can I come during the first trimester?

Yes, at every stage. The techniques are adapted to the stage of pregnancy and to your comfort.

When should I come after the birth?

As soon as you feel up to it, often 3 to 6 weeks afterwards, alongside perineal rehabilitation. And before getting back on the bike or running.

How many sessions during pregnancy?

One session per trimester is a common rhythm, plus one before the due date to prepare the pelvis. If you are in pain, as needed.
