Bike fit in Grenoble, by an osteopath

An hour on the road from Grenoble is a real trip, and I will not pretend that everyone needs it. For a simple saddle height or cleat adjustment, a shop in Grenoble will do. The trip is worth it when a pain persists despite adjustments, when you are changing bikes, or when you want an osteopath to examine your body before touching the bike and to treat what is blocking you. The practice is in Viviers-du-Lac, between Aix-les-Bains and Chambéry.

Riding from Grenoble

Grenoble is surrounded by three massifs that do not call for the same position. The Chartreuse, Porte, the Coq, the Cucheron, means steep gradients and cold descents on narrow roads. The Vercors via Saint-Nizier or Romeyère climbs more steadily and continues onto a windy plateau. Towards Vizille, the Oisans and the Alpe d’Huez impose an hour and a half seated at low cadence. In between, the Grésivaudan is ridden flat and fast, often in a group, nose in the wind.

The Grenoble riders I see have generally already ridden a lot and already adjusted a lot of things themselves. They come with a precise pain that will not go away: a hamstring that pulls at the bottom of the pedal stroke, a numb perineum on the Alpe d’Huez, a shoulder that tightens on the Chartreuse descents. There are also enduro mountain bikers around Vizille and Chamrousse, for whom the question is more about the handlebar and the cleats than the saddle.

To make the trip worthwhile, I suggest grouping things: a bike fit and, if needed, an osteopathy consultation in the same visit, or a second bike set up on the same day. Saturday lends itself well to this, and the A41 is quieter before 9 am. Parking is free in front of the practice. On the way out, the flat Lac du Bourget loop lets you validate the position before heading back to Grenoble.

Why here

A bike fit that starts with your body

Bike shops in Grenoble offer bike fits based on standard measurements and software. At the practice, the bike fit is carried out by an osteopath (D.O.): I first examine your mobility, your asymmetries and your pain, then I set up the bike accordingly. If a stiffness stops you from holding the right position, I treat it during the session.

I do not sell any equipment. My saddle, stem or handlebar recommendations serve your position only.

For cyclists, triathletes and mountain bikers from Grenoble, Meylan, Crolles, Voiron, Vizille and the Grésivaudan

Whether you are preparing the Alpe d’Huez, Chamrousse, the Col de Porte or the Col du Coq, a well-adapted position makes the difference on long climbs: less low back pain, an aligned knee and power transmitted more efficiently.

« I went to Gaspard for a bike fit and I was not disappointed! Very calm, composed, attentive, takes his time, excellent advice (a saddle model better suited to my body), ultra-professional equipment. Available afterwards by email or message for questions, very responsive. I went back to see him after the changes he had recommended: there is real follow-up. I highly recommend him, with my eyes closed! »

« Great work by Gaspard! A few hundred kilometres after he reviewed my bike setup and gave me advice on pedalling properly, no more knee or back pain. The way to go if you want to ride for hours without trouble. »

« I went to see Gaspard because I had been suffering from pain in my right knee for over 2 years, especially on the bike. After one osteopathy session and a bike fit, the pain has completely gone. Impressive result, the pleasure of riding back in a single session. Very professional and effective work. I highly recommend him! »

FAQ

Bike fit in Grenoble: your questions

Is it really worth driving an hour from Grenoble?

Not for a simple adjustment: a saddle height or cleats can be set in a shop in Grenoble or the Grésivaudan. The trip is justified if a pain persists despite those adjustments, if you are preparing a long goal, or if you want an osteopathic examination before the adjustment and treatment during the session. Allow an hour on the A41, 40 to 50 minutes from Crolles or Pontcharra.

Can I group a bike fit and an osteopathy consultation on the same day?

Yes, that is what I advise cyclists who come from far away. A pain that limits the position is treated during the bike fit; if it needs more, an osteopathy consultation at €60 can be placed in the same visit. Let me know when booking so that I block out the time needed. A second bike set up on the same day costs €60 more.

Which slot should I choose when coming from Grenoble?

Saturday morning, or a 10 am slot during the week: you avoid the Chambéry traffic jams, you are at the practice for 1.5 to 2 hours, and you can test the position on the Lac du Bourget loop before heading home. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 8 pm, with online booking.

Who comes from Grenoble and the Grésivaudan?

Road cyclists who already ride at a good level and have a stubborn pain, triathletes, enduro and XC mountain bikers, and gravel riders from the Vercors. The full bike fit costs €250, cleats included, €280 for a time trial bike. The price does not depend on where you come from, and adjustments are included for about three months: a text or a call, and we set up an appointment.
