« I went to Gaspard for a bike fit and I was not disappointed! Very calm, composed, attentive, takes his time, excellent advice (a saddle model better suited to my body), ultra-professional equipment. Available afterwards by email or message for questions, very responsive. I went back to see him after the changes he had recommended: there is real follow-up. I highly recommend him, with my eyes closed! »

Road bike fit
Road cycling is the discipline where position matters most: hours sitting on the same saddle, hands in the same place, a movement repeated 5,000 times an hour. An adjustment that seems trivial, 5 mm of saddle height or 2° of cleat rotation, makes the difference between an enjoyable 150 km ride and knee pain that lasts all summer.
What the bike fit looks at for road bike
- Analysis of your position on the three handlebar holds (tops, hoods, drops) and choice of handlebar width according to your shoulders
- Saddle height and setback validated while pedalling, at real cadence, checking knee angle and pelvic stability
- Cleat setup: fore-aft position, rotation and tilt according to your foot and your knees
- Stem length and handlebar height adapted to your lumbar and thoracic mobility, not to a “pro” ideal
- Saddle recommendations if yours creates pressure or numbness
What to bring: your bike, your shoes with cleats, your bib shorts and your current fit measurements if you have them.
Typical pain
| Area | Common postural cause |
|---|---|
| Knee | saddle too low or too high, cleats badly aligned, hip stiffness |
| Lower back | handlebar too far or too low for your mobility, pelvis locked in posterior tilt |
| Neck and shoulders | position too stretched out, handlebar too narrow, thoracic stiffness |
| Hands | too much weight on the front: saddle setback, saddle angle, handlebar height |
| Perineum | unsuitable or tilted saddle, pelvis rocking |
I treat the pain with osteopathy if needed, then I correct the position so it does not come back. Osteopath for cyclists.

« Great work by Gaspard! A few hundred kilometres after he reviewed my bike setup and gave me advice on pedalling properly, no more knee or back pain. The way to go if you want to ride for hours without trouble. »
« I went to see Gaspard because I had been suffering from pain in my right knee for over 2 years, especially on the bike. After one osteopathy session and a bike fit, the pain has completely gone. Impressive result, the pleasure of riding back in a single session. Very professional and effective work. I highly recommend him! »

A case seen at the practice

Between two frame sizes before buying a bike
- The situation
- He wanted to switch to a Canyon and was hesitating between an S and an M. Canyon sizes run large: at 1.75 m you can be an S with them and an M elsewhere. He wanted a bike for racing.
- What the bike fit showed
- His measurements put him between the two sizes. Comfort is the starting point in every case: without comfort there is no efficiency on the bike. But a rider who trains at high intensity can hold a position tilted further forward, more aerodynamic, for much longer than someone who rides occasionally. So for him we went for the S: a lower stack, a bigger drop between saddle and handlebar, a more forward position. For an occasional rider we would have done the opposite. It is a case-by-case decision.
- What we did
- As the S has a shorter reach than the M, we compensated with a slightly longer stem. We also chose the handlebar width and the crank length from his measurements, his habits and what the bike was for. He ordered the bike with those components, then came back to the practice for the full setup as soon as it arrived.
- The result
- He left with a bike set up for him and components that match his body, not the other way round. Since then the position suits him, with no pain, and he races in FFC events in good conditions.
Every case is different: these stories illustrate the approach, they do not promise a result.
Road bike fit: your questions
Do I need a bike fit for a new road bike?
It is the best time: factory settings are averages. If you have not bought yet, the two-step bike fit (€250, same price) saves you from the wrong size: measurements and recommendations before you buy, setup afterwards.
I ride without pain, what is the point?
For efficiency, and to stop pain from arriving as your mileage grows. An efficient position transmits power better and delays muscle fatigue on long rides.
How long does it take to adapt to the new settings?
Two to three rides in general. Major changes are made in stages and I show you how to fine-tune with the FramIQ app.

Time to book. Athlete or not, I start by understanding where the pain comes from before treating it.
